Christopher Frank Carandini Lee nació el 27-mayo-1922, en Belgravia, Londres (UK). Casado desde el 17 de marzo de 1961 con Birgit Kroenke tiene una hija llamada Christina.

Biografía:

Es hijo de una condesa italiana (Estelle Marie Carandini) y de un coronel (Jeffrey Lee). Sus padres se divorciaron en 1928. Su madre se volvió a casar con un bebedor que gastó todo su dinero. Lo dejó, pero eso la abocó, a ella y a sus dos hijos adolescentes, a la ruina económica total. Debido a este hecho, Christopher hubo de abandonar sus estudios en el prestigioso colegio Wellington en 1939, donde destacaba en deportes y lenguas clásicas.

Su madre no veía con buenos ojos que se dedicara a la interpretación, ya que eso le obligaría a juntarse con "gente espantosa e inmoral", además de ser algo muy inferior a su categoría, y trató de disuadirlo de sus propósitos. La condesa Carandini quería que fuera diplomático. Se casó bastante tarde; a finales de los cincuenta era considerado por la prensa británica como "uno de los solteros más cotizados de Londres" Conoció a su mujer Birgit (alias Gitte), modelo de profesión, a punto de entrar en los cuarenta.



Uno de los momentos más difíciles de su vida fue cuando nació su hija Christina; su esposa estuvo a punto de fallecer durante el parto, y como consecuencia de esto, no pudo tener más descendencia. En 1962 se trasladó a vivir a Suiza, entre otras cosas, para evitar que la Hacienda de su Graciosa Majestad Británica se enriqueciera a costa suya. En el 1976 se fue a vivir a California, donde permaneció 10 años, buscando darle un giro a su carrera. Actualmente, reside en Londres.

Antes de triunfar como actor (tardó en tener éxito en el cine: no le querían contratar para personajes importantes en películas "domésticas" inglesas porque "tenía un aspecto demasiado extranjero y era muy alto") desempeñó variados oficios. Lo cierto es que, pese a sus orígenes aristocráticos, Lee ha trabajado desde muy joven (a los 16 años ya se empleó como recadero "por una libra esterlina a la semana"). En principio, sus pasos estaban orientados hacia la música. Fue contratado para los coros de la Opera de Estocolmo, pero al parecer eso no le reportaba mucho dinero. Más tarde, en 1947, firmó un contrato con la productora Rank durante 7 años y, desde entonces, no ha parado de hacer películas y series de TV.



Uno de sus primeros papeles fue como soldado portador de una lanza en Hamlet de Laurence Olivier, donde también actuaba el que sería su amigo Peter Cushing, aunque no coincidieron. Hasta 1957 fue relegado a papeles secundarios (por no decir otra cosa) Su primer éxito data de esa fecha, cuando rodó La maldicion de Frankenstein para la Hammer. Por primera vez, lo productores querían un hombre muy alto. Al año siguiente, Terence Fisher, director de al cinta, volvió a contar con él para que encarnara a Drácula (Drácula/Horror of Dracula) Y se hizo famoso de la noche a la mañana. Durante los sesenta alternó los papeles de Drácula y Fu-Manchú, al tiempo que se convertía en un mito del género fantástico. En los setenta, fue el villano imprescindible. En los ochenta y noventa trabajó sobre todo en televisión y en horribles producciones de serie B (por decir algo amable); y ahora, en el siglo XXI sigue en la brecha, viviendo una especie de "segunda juventud" con trabajos como los de Star Wars: El ataque de los clones, o Star Wars: La venganza de los Sith, o la serie de El Señor de los Anillos, donde interpreta al mago Saruman.

Christopher Lee es el único actor en que pensé como posible protagonista de tus novelas desde que comencé a leerlas.

Es un hombre que aún a su edad tiene un gran magnetismo y personalidad... que, lamentablemente, no queda reflejado en las fotos que has puesto, bastante cutres a mi entender.
