Shaun Mark Bean nació en Sheffield el 17 de abril de 1959 y dejó la escuela en 1975 sin tener mucha idea de lo que quería hacer.

Trabajó con su padre en una empresa desoldadura antes de estudiar interpretación en el RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts), de Londres, y apareció en varias producciones teatrales antes de debutar en el cine con "Winter Flight".

Bean se ha hecho internacionalmente conocido por su papel de Boromir en la exitosa "El señor de los anillos" y, en la actualidad, hace teatro al tiempo que trabaja en la televisión británica y sigue apareciendo en algunas producciones norteamericanas.

Sean es padre de tres hijas de dos de sus tres ex mujeres.

Gran entusiasta del fútbol es seguidor del Sheffield United y no se pierde uno de sus partidos esté donde esté (!aunque tenga que seguirlos por teléfono!).
