Jason Isaacs nació el 6 de junio de 1963 en Liverpool, Merseyside, Inglaterra. Es el tercero de cuatro hermanos.
Estudió Derecho en la Universidad de Bristol y se graduó en 1985 pero decidió estudiar interpretación. Mientras estaba en la Universidad, dirigió y / o apareció en más de 20 producciones. Cuando estudiaba interpretación, en la Central School of Speech and Drama conoció a su mujer Emma.
En 1994, apareció en la película de culto británica "Shopping"
Su debut en el cine americano fue en 1989, en la película "Un tipo de altura" protagonizada por Jeff Goldblum. Pero la película que realmente le dio a conocer fue "El patriota", en la que interpretaba al malvado y brutal coronel William "El carnicero" Tavington.
